On December 12, 2023, Kino Lorber will be releasing a 4K UHD + Blu-ray release for John Woo’s Face/Off, a 1997 action thriller stars John Travolta (Broken Arrow) and Nicolas Cage (Prisoners of the Ghostland). The film will be featured with a New 4K Restoration and Dolby/Vision HDR Grade.

Obsessed with bringing terrorist Castor Troy (Cage) to justice, FBI agent Sean Archer (Travolta) tracks down Troy, who has boarded a plane in Los Angeles. After the plane crashes and Troy is severely injured, possibly dead, Archer undergoes surgery to remove his face and replace it with Troy’s. As Archer tries to use his disguise to elicit information about a bomb from Troy’s brother, Troy awakes from a coma and forces the doctor who performed the surgery to give him Archer’s face.

Along with 1993’s Hard Target, Face/Off is considered one of Woo’s finest Hollywood productions.

Face/Off also stars Joan Allen (The Bourne Supremacy), Alessandro Nivola (Goal!), Dominique Swain (Lolita) and Gina Gershon (Bound).

On December 28th, 2021, martial arts star Gary Daniels (City Hunter, Bloodmoon, The Expendables) is teaming up with Charles Bronson lookalike, Robert Bronzi (Once Upon a Time in Deadwood), for Lionsgate’s DVD release for The Gardener.

The quiet of the English countryside is shattered one brutal night in this intense home-invasion thriller. A troubled wealthy family gathers in a quaint manor home for the holidays, never suspecting that bloodthirsty, sadistic Volker (Daniels) and his crew linger at the gates, ready to attack, rob, and maim them at nightfall. On July 20, 2021, RLJ Entertainment is releasing the Blu-ray set for Season One of Gangs of London, the latest from Gareth Evans, the action filmmaker behind The Raid, Apostle and Merantau.

Gangs of London stars Joe Cole (A Prayer Before Dawn) and Sope Dirisu (Humans), alongside Lucian Msamati, Michelle Fairley, Mark Lewis Jones, Narges Rashidi, Jing Lusi and Pippa Bennet-Warner.

The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone | Blu-ray (Paramount)

On December 8, 2020, Paramount Home Media will release the Blu-ray for Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. The film is described as a re-working of The Godfather III, that has been re-edited with new scenes and re-arranged music cues.

Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is an acknowledgement of Mario’s and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became The Godfather: Part III,” said Coppola. “For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.”

Coppola and his production company American Zoetrope worked from a 4K scan of the original negative to undertake a painstaking, frame-by-frame restoration of both the new Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone and the original The Godfather: Part III. In order to create the best presentation possible, Zoetrope and Paramount’s restoration team began by searching for over 50 original takes to replace lower resolution opticals in the original negative. This process took more than six months and involved sifting through 300 cartons of negative. American Zoetrope worked diligently to repair scratches, stains, and other anomalies that could not be addressed previously due to technology constraints, while enhancements were made to the original 5.1 audio mix.

The Blu-ray presentation will include the newly restored and re-edited film, an exclusive introduction by Coppola, and access to a Digital copy of the film.

Coppola’s masterful film adaptation of Puzo’s novel chronicles the rise and fall of the Corleone family and the saga is rightfully viewed as one of the greatest in cinematic history. The Godfather: Part III was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film follows Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, as he seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire.

On June 18, 2020, Mill Creek Entertainment will shoot off their DVD for Sweating Bullets, a 2-disc/10 movie set featuring a stack of low budget, straight-to-video thrillers – most of them from the 1990s – by cult directors Damian Lee (Moving Target) and Fred Olen Ray (Armed Response).

The highlight of the collection (at least for us) is the 1995 actioner Fatal Combat (aka No Exit) starring martial arts star Jeff Wincott (Martial Law II: Undercover, Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms).

As long as Tom Berenger is alive, there will always be a demand for Sniper films! So on June 16, 2020, Sony Home Entertainment will release the Blu-ray & DVD for Sniper: Assassin’s End.

The upcoming film also stars Chad Michael Collins (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare) and Japanese actress/singer Sayaka Akimoto (High-Kick Girl!, Ultraman Saga) in her Hollywood film debut.

Special Ops sniper Brandon Beckett (Collins) is set up as the primary suspect for the murder of a foreign dignitary on the eve of signing a high-profile trade agreement with the United States. Narrowly escaping death, Beckett realizes that there may be a dark operative working within the government, and partners with the only person whom he can trust: his father, legendary sniper Sgt. Thomas Beckett (Berenger). Both Becketts are on the run from the CIA, Russian mercenaries and Lady Death, a Yakuza-trained assassin (Akimoto) with sniper skills that rival both legendary sharpshooters.
