Those Undisputed movies with Scott were so lame, I couldn’t finish the pitiful Last one. Ringo Lam’s In hell was so much better.

Sounds good to me! I love me some Adklins. and I love me some Michael Jai White! So this is a bonus. I’d really like them to do a buddy cop movie or something along those lines.

Ahhh, that makes total sense, Paul! Thanks for sharing. I really felt like the fight with Scott Adkins vs. Michael Jai White/Ray Park was the stand-out bout in the movie, and easily one of the best fight scenes of Adkins’ career – yes, as good as what we’ve seen in the ‘Undisputed’ series. The fact that Adkins had ample time to stage and film that sequence really seems to have paid off.

Still, four days is such a short time to film a fight scene as intricate as that! I bet in the Eighties, Hong Kong crews would have spent 2 weeks or more on a fight like that (while shooting the dialogue exchanges as quickly as possible).

I’m glad Adkins kept the flashback in the script. It was a nice change of pace in the film, and not something I expected to see in a DTV action flick! It also allowed us to see another side of Ray Stevenson’s character.

Glad to hear you guys enjoyed it as much as I did! Regarding the flashback sequence to how he became an assassin (was it really 25 mins? I need to wait for my Blu-ray to arrive before I check it out again!), Adkins revealed in an interview with the guys over at slashfilm that it was always in the script. It was Jesse V. Johnson that shot it, which allowed for Adkins to film the fight against Michael Jai White (is my weight comment justified? :-P) and Ray Park with the second unit crew. –

How long did you have to shoot the fight with Michael and Ray?

Well, because I was a producer on this, I scheduled the movie. I actually wrote the flashback which was in the comic, but I definitely wanted to keep it because I knew that was an opportunity where I could be on second unit while Jesse is filming the flashback stuff with the young Fallon. I could be working on the fight sequences with Tim Man on second unit. So we scheduled it in a way I think we had four days for that fight. We had more time than we needed to be honest, which was a luxury that we don’t normally have. We could’ve done a little bit longer on the Amy Johnston fight, but we used some of that for the second unit as well. We got an extra day for that fight on second unit. We were okay.”

It’s funny how despite being low budget, it’s not obvious, and looks like a theatrical release. Meanwhile, I’ve seen more expensive films that look cheaper than Accident Man.

Amy Johnston is fantastic. I hope this is the movie that finally makes people notice her. After being Scarlett Johanson’s stunt double for so long, she’s more than earned the chance to be a star.

That flashback scene was very good, and really gave the movie more depth. If Scott was away during the making of that scene, it was certainly productive for everyone involved.

I completely agree with your points, Andrew. I watched ‘Accident Man’ via On Demand just this last Tuesday night and it was a very stylishly made movie on a low-budget. I concur, that fight scene with Amy Johnston was brutal and punishing in all the right ways; Adkins certainly didn’t pull any punches just because he was fighting a woman, and Amy gave as good as she got. I’ve watched all of her DTV movies like ‘Lady Bloodfight’ and ‘Female Fight Squad’ because I think she is a talent to watch, but ‘Accident Man’ is the first movie where we really got to see her full potential in an expertly choreographed fight scene. It was thrilling to watch!

Another aspect of this film I found so interesting was that Scott Adkins basically disappears during the middle stretch for a 25-minute flashback scene. It’s a fun part of the movie that goes into Accident Man’s origin story, if you will; but if Paul Bramhall gets to interview Scott Adkins again in the near future, I’d love to hear the reasoning behind that creative decision. Part of me wonders if it was simply to offer Adkins some time off to recoup from all the fight scenes and stunts! Of course, he’s also a busy man, having appeared in four films in 2017 alone.

I loved every minute of Accident Man, and it’s definitely one of the best films so far of 2018.

I was definitely reminded of the works of Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn. The use of colors in the movie even brought to mind Dick Tracy. Scott Adkins put in a really good peroformance as well spoken smart-ass, and definitely showed his versatility as an actor as well as a martial artist.

David Paymer has always been one of the best character actors out there, and it was fun to see him play a weasley cretin. (Even if the role was somewhat similar to his part in Payback. He’s good at it.)

Of course, the fight scenes were all very good, and it’s amazing that they were shot on a tight schedule. This did not look like a rushed shoot. Amy Johnston’s fight was great, and I liked how she was just as tough as the men.

I think about other movies where women’s strikes ineffective against men and get taken out easily, (Sofia Crawford vs Haikim Alston in US Seals 2 was made me cringe.) and I enjoyed seeing Amy go against that bullshit.

I need to get all my friends to see this gem too.

Ha! No, I likely wouldn’t say it to his face, only because it would make me concerned for the wellbeing of my own. 🙂 In all fairness, his weight likely only stood out more because the Blu-ray artwork uses a 2006 ‘Undisputed 2’ era image of Jai White, rather than a more current one. Either way, the guy is still a powerhouse, and it was great to see him sharing the screen with Adkins again after 12 years.

You’re a braver man than me, Paul, if you would dare to say this to Michael Jai White’s face! Ha ha.

In all seriousness, my hype level for this movie is through the roof. I can’t wait to give it a watch via On Demand.

When David Letich took over Deadpool 2, I was hoping it would turn out like this. It sounds like Accident Man is what it should be.

I’m glad Amy Johnson is getting a chance to shine.
