This has got to be her best performance…no wonder she won the Outstanding performance award….her fight with Ivy was magical….it was easy for Ivy as she had been handed the good roles .

I watched this movie more than 1000 times simply because of Lily. her other movie -confessions of a chinese courtesan is just as good…..bravo

It was a strange choice with Lily Ho wasn’t it. You would think with all the women one more wouldn’t have mattered. Yep once the movie took off she seemed believable, probably one of the better “women in male drag” scenes in other films.

Let’s see Cheng Kang…Sword of Swords….oian mian da dao (no subtitles, very old film, I wasn’t sure of the story.) I’ve seen Sons of the Good Earth, which he co wrote and may have had a hand at directing. Four Guests….might not be the right name….Immortal Warriors….maybe a few others these are off the top of my head.

Hoh Mung Wa uhm…An Appointment at Dark, Tales of Larceny, Chin Ping Warlord and Actress (aka Peony?) I think his last movie was “Swift Sword” Born 1923 – Died May 19th 2009.

And last but not least Cheng Cheh (1923 – 2002) who was not only a prolific director he was head writer at Shaws from 1961 – 1967. I have seen many of his films which isn’t surprising since he is credited with more than one hundred films. O let’s see… All Men Are Brothers, Blood Brothers, 7 Man Army, The Heroic ones, Flying dagger, Water Margin, Disciples of Shaolin, Flying Dagger, Magnificent Trio, One Armed Swordsman and return of same, Ummmm. that’s all I can think of right now. He scripted and directed a number of great movies.

I have to confess – One of my favorite directors is Lau Kar Leung. Yes most of the humor was not of the highest quality but that wasn’t why I watched. The man was a genius with martial arts, most of the time. He worked on movies with Cheng Cheh including I believe The Heroic Ones.
Eight Diagram Pole Fighter is one of if not the best in his career. Eighteen Legendary Weapons of China, Disciples of the 36th Chamber. There are more good ones but I think I have overused my brain trying to remember the director’s, writers and films!

The only problem I had with this one, was taking Lily Ho seriously in a male role. Once the movie got into gear however, she was just another good character in a great film!

What other Cheng Kang films have you seen? Him and Hoh Mung Wa are my favorite Shaw directors along with Chang Cheh.
