I watch them through about once per year. It’s like a Japanese Godfather series, but without the excessive glamorization and romanticization – BWHaH makes it clear that, despite their occasional moments of glory, these are a bunch of criminal scumbags. The way the violence is depicted (chaotic, inelegant, inhumane, frequently ineffective, performed by terrified kids…) is just fantastic. The characters are constantly being depicted as greedy, selfish, cowardly, and foolish, yet they’re still compelling characters that you can identify with. …dammit, time to go on another binge.
