When I watched Believer I was very satisfied with its conclusion, it was absolutely fitting and made the right impact.
Believer 2 can be summed up in one word which you also used in your spot on review; -frustrating-.
Why even use scenes from the original actor of Rak in the beginning only to confuse the watcher with a new actor, that was the first moment I thought to myself “the hell is going on” and it took me completely out of the movie.
From then on it was a slide down into annoyance after annoyance, your review is accurately illustrating my experience.

Anyone that watched Believer 1 and thinks of watching Believer 2.. don’t. It will be poisonous to the fond memories you have of 1.

I don’t know where the producers were going with this. It seems like this movie was made for a modern facetious audience that wouldn’t give a shit about the original. In which case, why bother to make a sequel to something they wouldn’t watch even with the bad recap?

Interestingly, some people who liked Drug War hate Believer. I guess they liked Drug War’s “less is more” approach while they were put off by the heaviness of Believer. And no, they do not support the NRTA.

Next, we should have a sequel to A Bittersweet Life that changes the ending and reveals that a different villain spearheaded everything all along. Then Lee Byung Hun can team up with the assassin that was looking for him and engage in a finale full of shitty CGI.

As per your review, everyone should check out Drug War. This was the last time Johnnie To was at his peak ( even more so that he got this subversive movie through the commie censors). After this it was a steady decline in meh sequels, spiritual sequels and passion project experiments gone wrong.
