Thank you for taking the bullet and reviewing this one. Your review helped me to diminish my expectations before I watched ‘Black Water.’ Now that it’s available on Prime, I decided to sit down and give it a watch as I was in the mood for a Van Damme flick. I might actually give the movie an even lower score than you. As longtime fans of Jean-Claude Van Damme, we’ve all witnessed numerous career highs and lows along the way, but “Black Water” is the first film I’ve seen in which Van Damme genuinely appears to be sleepwalking through his role. It’s almost like he found out his Amazon series was cancelled just before the cameras started rolling. Then again, I can hardly blame him – it’s not like this script gives him anything to work with.

The movie only comes alive during those intermittent moments when Dolph Lundgren is onscreen, but his character is so nonessential to the plot, you have to wonder why they even bothered to shell out the cash for the actor. Perhaps the producers figured the re-teaming of the “Universal Soldier” duo was the only thing that could possibly sell the movie.

“Black Water” had potential – that opening shootout in Alabama was actually fairly solid – but once the action moves to the submarine, the film’s chances sink along with the characters.

Between this and your review of “Kill ‘Em All” (which I don’t think I can bring myself to watch), I’m frankly worried about Van Damme. His heart doesn’t seem in it anymore. I can’t tell if it’s because of the bad material being sent his way or if he’d rather be doing anything else with his time than making these DTV action flicks.

Lukas a.k. Bouncer, looks like a return to form, and We Die Young seem’s to be getting positive feedbak, from those lucky enough to see it early.
