Zach, as always, I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree with pretty much everything you said, save for “All in all, Blood Father is yet another reminder that Gibson is one of our premiere entertainers, no matter how good or bad the film he participates in.” (Machete 2 and Expendables 3 are examples).

But I thoroughly enjoyed Blood Father. Far from perfect. Good but not great. But overall, Gibson’s best in years. Some of the bad guys were one-dimensional, but somehow, the film really worked for me. No nonsense stuff. Violent. Intense acting from Mel. I’ll take it over Taken any day of the week.

Blood Father is further proof that Mel should have been in Mad Max: Fury Road. Damnit. Now that’s a wasted opportunity. Sure, it was one of the most acclaimed action movies of recent times, but if Mel was in it, he would have been back in the A-list game. But I think he’s heading there regardless.

Honestly guys, many other critics are loving this one, so I’m simply in the minority on this. I love Gibson, genre movies, all of that kind of stuff, but I simply didn’t enjoy it and wanted to be honest and go with my gut feeling.

Wow. This is sad. I was hoping Blood Father would at the very least be as good as Edge of Darkness. I enjoyed Richet’s other films as well, so I don’t know why he’d forgo what made his previous films work.
